France's FIJAISV registry of sexual and violent offenders is not public. Judicial authorities, police, prefects and some state administrations consult it. France applies the Schengen Borders Code, which allows refusal of travellers considered a threat to public policy.

The country's own registry

Law The FIJAISV (fichier judiciaire automatisé des auteurs d'infractions sexuelles ou violentes) records people convicted of sexual or violent offences, including French nationals convicted abroad. It is consulted by judicial authorities, police and gendarmerie, prefects and certain state administrations, not by the public.

Entry and admissibility

Law As a Schengen state, it applies the Schengen Borders Code. A traveller may be refused entry if considered a threat to public policy or internal security (art. 6(1)(e)).

Visa / travel authorisation

Policy The EU Entry/Exit System registers non-EU short-stay travellers at the external border. The ETIAS travel authorisation is announced but its start date could not be confirmed.

What U.S. rules still apply
